About Lorraine Toohey

My relationship to the visible world is like an infatuation that involves deep love and respect for nature. I try to internalise the forms and textures I see in nature so that what is expressed in my work is both a deeply personal reflection of myself and a reflection of the natural world of which I am a part. Like meeting a relative for the first time who bears a strong family resemblance, my hope is that my work feels to the viewer like something they have never seen before yet also feels vaguely familiar as it rests comfortably within the language of the natural world.
